Newcastle collected all three points at Brentford to move to the top of the Championship as Brighton went down at Preston. The Seagulls still have a game in hand.
A goal from Daryl Murphy‘s, his first for the Magpies, gave Newcastle a 2-1 win at Brentford which puts them back at the top of the Championship.
All this was possible as Brighton travelled to Preston North End and came out defeated by 2-0 with goals from Huntington and Robinson. The Seagulls are now a point behind with a game in hand.
In third place Garry Monk‘s Leeds United who on Friday defeated Derby with a Chris Wood‘s header on the strike of half-time.
Day 26 saw Reading on Thursday loose at home to Queens Park Rangers 0-1. A defeat which left the Royals in fourth position at level points with Huddersfield who also lost 2-0 at Sheffield Wednesday. Wins were registered by Wolves who at home beat Aston Villa with a Joe Mason goal and Ipswich who came out winners over Blackburn in a five goal thriller.
Bottom placed Rotherham and Wigan also registered wins. The Millers defeated at home Norwich 2-1 whilst the Latics defeated relegation rivals Burton 2-0 at the Pirelli Stadium. With the same result Fulham collected all three points against Barnsley and Cardiff collected another three vital points with a 3-2 win at Bristol to move 6 points clear over relegation zone.
Birmingham and Nottingham Forest featured in a goalless draw which left both teams where they were before their encounter.
