Arsenal are through to the quarter-finals, but non league Sutton exits with dignity.
In front of record crowd for the small Gander Green Lane, non league giant killers Sutton United cup run came to an end against twelve time cup winners Arsenal.
With seven changes to the side which was trashed by Bayern in the Champions League, the Gunners were still good enough to see them through off a team 105 places below them in the English football’s ladder.
Yet it was not an easy stroll for Arsenal as they had to wait up to the 26′ to open the score when Lucas Pèrez‘s cross-shot was misjudged by Womer and doubled the score 10 minutes after the break through Theo Walcott.
Sutton too had their moments, especially when Adam May failed to take advantage of Ospina‘s poor clearance in the first 45’ and Roarie Deacon hit the bar with a 25-yard shot.
So Arsenal are through to the quarter-finals where they will face once again another National League side, Lincoln City at the Emirates.
To Sutton goes the credit to have honoured the competition as they have put their name in FA Cup history.
