Mission accomplished for Chelsea who extended their lead with a 2-0 victory against Hull. A last minute penalty by Sanchez gives Arsenal second place. Serious head injury for Hull’s Ryan Mason.
After Saturday results victory for Chelsea was essential to extend their lead at the top of the Premiership. And victory it was for the Blues who managed to overcome a stubborn Hull defence with goals from Diego Costa in injury time given in the first 45′ and Cahill with 9′ left from the end.
The game was marred with the terrible injury sustained by Hull‘s midfielder Ryan Mason who suffered an severe head injury and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask.
The unfortunate midfielder was later transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where he underwent surgery and is now in a stable condition.
Back to the action, this victory now gives Chelsea an eight point lead on second placed Arsenal who only managed to obtain three points with a last minute penalty by Alexis Sanchez.
The Gunners went ahead in the 59′ through defender Mustafi and had swiss midfielder Xhaka sent off in the 65′.
But in added time substitute Coquelin fouled Burnley‘s Ashley Barnes in the area and Gray from the penalty spot levelled the score.
Only for Sanchez to win the game for Arsenal with a 98′ penalty which put the Gunners as Chelsea‘s immediate pursuer.
Finally more misery for champions Leicester as they were defeated once more 3-0 at Southampton.
Goals from Ward-Prowse, Rodriguez and Tadic from the penalty spot sealed victory for the home team whilst the Foxes have now dropped to just five points away from relegation zone.
