Newcastle supporters should be happy as their side beat Nottingham Forest to go top of the Championship and look forward to be promoted in the new year 2017.
With a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest, Rafa Benitez‘s boys regained the top of the Championship and look at the New Year with high hopes of being promoted back to the Premiership.
The Magpies opened the score after only 4′ play when Matt Ritchie‘s free-kick was deflected to end at the back of the Forest keeper Stojkovic.
Newcastle seemed in total control but against the run of play Forest managed to level the score in the 29′ when Nicolao Dumitru‘s shot ended behind Karl Darlow.
The turning point of the match for Benitez’s boys, even if they were the better side all through the match, arrived on the hour when Mills was sent off after receiving a second booking. From that moment on Newcastle scored twice from Dwight Gayle to obtain all three points and the top of the table.
In the other match played on Friday Night, Ipswich Town beat Bristol City 2-1 with goals coming from Bru and Pitman whereas Abraham had momentarily leveled the score for the visitors.
The match between Brighton and Cardiff which could have confirmed the Seagulls at the top of the Championship was postponed due to bad weather conditions.
