National League side, Lincoln City’s dream came to the end as they were beaten by Arsenal at the Emirates. Yet the Imps for 45′ made the Gunners sweat as they stood up to their most illustrious opponents.
It was difficult for Arsenal to forget the midweek trashing at the hands of Bayern and this showed in the first 45′ of their quarterfinal game against non-league side Lincoln City.
Followed by almost 9,000 fans, Danny Cowley‘s boys stood their own against their more illustrious opponents and in the first half went near to open the score when Nathan Arnold‘s shot was saved by Cech. But on the strike of halftime in injury time Theo Walcott broke the deadlock, much to the relieve of Wenger and all Gunners fans.
It was only after the break that Arsenal showed their superior qualities and for Lincoln their was no chance for any surprises. Goals from Giroud, Waterfall (og), Sánchez and Ramsey saw the Gunners trash the Imps to make their way into the semis.
The dream for Lincoln City may be over but their outstanding run in this season’s FA Cup will remain forever remembered in the Cup’s history.
