With just 27 points left to be won, Chelsea suffered a shock home defeat to Crystal Palace and the gap between them and victorious Spurs has been reduced to just 7 points. Important win for Hull as Man. United disappoints home fans once more.
Chelsea-Crystal Palace
What a day in Premiership! Leaders Chelsea suffered a shock defeat at the hands of lowly Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. Their lead at the top of the table has now been reduced to 7 points.
It seemed another normal Saturday afternoon for the Chelsea fans as after just 5′ Cesc Fabregas found the net from an Eden Hazard cross.
But it was not to be as Crystal Palace stunned the leaders with two goals in two minutes running from the 9′ to the 11′ of the first half.
First Wilfried Zaha finished a personal solo action with a fine shot from outside the box to equalize and just 2′ later set up Christian Benteke to put the Eagles ahead. His third goal at Stamford Bridge, each with a different jersey (Aston Villa, Liverpool and Crystal Palace).
The Blues tried hard to get back in the game but this time they found Sam Allardyce defense hard to break especially in Wayne Hennessey who produced a number of good saves to enable his side to collect all three points.
Now with only 9 matches to the end the gap at the top has been reduced to 7 points as Tottenham collected all three points from the journey to Burnley with Dier (66′) and Son Heung-min (77′) on the score sheet.
And in mid-week Chelsea will host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in what will be a decisive match for both teams and their respective ambitions whilst Tottenham will travel to face relegation-threatened Swansea.
Three important points to keep their hopes to stay in the Premiership alive for Hull as they beat West Ham 2-1. The goal which secured victory came in the 85′ from January signing Andrea Ranocchia after Carroll had put the Hammers in the lead and Robertson equalized for the Tigers.
Whilst Leicester continued in their winning streak with a convincing win over Stoke with goals from Ndidi and Vardy and Watford scoring a 1-0 victory over bottom placed Sunderland.
The only two matches which ended in a goalless draw were those between Southampton and Bournemouth and Manchester United against West Brom. Another disappointing result for the Red Devils in their quest to finish in the top four.
