Tottenham confirms second place. Aguero saves point for City. United are still in the hunt to finish in the top four.


Sunday soccer in the Premiership saw Tottenham confirm their second place, Aguero salvage a point for City whereas United keep their hopes to finish in the top four alive.

 

Manchester United were the first to take to the pitch when they encountered Middlesbrough, seeking three important points to put pressure on both City and Liverpool who were to play later. And three points they took with a 3-1 win.

It was Marouane Fellaini to put the Red Devils ahead after Victor Valdes denied twice Rushford from opening the score.

In the second period a terrific strike by Jesse Lingard, doubled the score for United, before substitute Rudy Gestede reduced the deficit, after Smalling made a mess of an easy clearance.

The home team pressed hard for the equalizer but in stoppage time Antonio Valencia scored to secure the three points which keep the Red Devils‘ hopes to finish in the top four alive. Now the gap between them, Man. City and Liverpool is only five and four points respectively, with a two games in hand.

Without their leading scorer Harry Kane, Tottenham scored a 2-1 victory over Southampton to confirm their second place behind leaders Chelsea.

It was Danish Christian Eriksen‘s shot from outside the box put the Spurs ahead, with Dele Alli‘s penalty doubling the score before half-time.

Southampton were unlucky to loose in-form Italian striker Manolo Gabbiadini to injury in the first half, but they put a good fight scoring through James Ward-Prowse as the start of the second period, to make Tottenham work hard to earn all three points.

Sunday‘s big match between City and Liverpool ended in a 1-1 draw which satisfies neither Guardiola nor Klopp.
